Tesla showcased its latest products and software at the we, robot event held today. One of the most striking parts of the event was the Tesla Cybercab robotaxi. So what does this vehicle offer?
Tesla Robotaxi Cybercab Features
Tesla introduced the prototype of the Cybercab robotaxi at an event it held today. CEO Elon Musk described it as an important step towards the company’s goal of establishing a fully autonomous passenger transportation network. A version of the vehicle without a steering wheel and pedals was also exhibited in the announcement.
The Cybercab prototype resembles a smaller version of Tesla’s Cybertruck model. 20 Cybercab prototypes were exhibited and test drives were conducted during the event. The event was postponed from last August due to Tesla’s request for a “significant design change” to the front of the vehicles. In addition, the introduction is quite important for Tesla’s full self-drive capabilities this year after it abandoned its $25,000 electric car project.
Tesla hopes to create a fleet of cybercabs as part of its larger goal, offering autonomous rides at a lower cost than public transportation. However, Musk also admitted last year that it missed its goal of having more than 1 million autonomous Tesla vehicles. While Tesla aims to operate its own robotaxi network, it also plans to allow customers to earn money by adding their vehicles to the network.
Of course, it should not be forgotten that the robotaxi Cybercab is still in the testing phase and the vehicles shown are prototypes. Considering that the Cybertruck will enter mass production in 3-4 years, a similar scenario may apply to robotaxi.
